Each year, the Academy's President awards the recipients of MAPA's Past President's Council Awards, instituted in 1997. The awards are given at the fall conference each year for that year. Not all of the four honors are awarded every year. The criteria for these awards is listed below and is available here in Adobe Acrobat format . If you are interested in nominating an individual for an award, please E-mail the President. Please include some pertinent information regarding the individual, along with your nomination.

PA of the Year:
Current MAPA Member
Written nomination by another MAPA member
Not currently serving on MAPA Board of Directors or as a Committee
Chair Demonstrated clinical excellence and commitment to the PA Core Values (as adopted by AAPA) by formal award or written testimony
Recognized community service which increases awareness of the PA role and the PA contribution to society
 
Physician of the Year:
Licensed Maryland Physician
Written nomination by a MAPA member
Supervision of Physician Assistants or employment of Physician Assistants in practice over the last 5 years.
Public promotion of the PA profession to legislators, community-at-large, or through a physician or other professional organization
Willingness to attend award ceremony (except in case of posthumous awards)
 
Special Recognition:
Written promotion by a MAPA member
Promotion of the PA profession in the form of but not limited to:
Testimony before the state for national legislative bodies
Writing newspaper or magazine articles that increase public awareness of PAs
Interviews with press that promote PA public education
Production, distribution or promotion of health awareness information that also highlights PA role
 
Outstanding Service:
Current MAPA member
Written nomination by another MAPA member
A minimum of five years service to the PA profession on a state or national level in at at least two different areas (e.g. officer, delegate/alternate, council/committee chair)
